Super Clone IWC Unveils Ceralume Luminous Ceramic Watch Technology & Prototype
Continuing its efforts to innovate with new ceramic materials, replica IWC has recently unveiled its Ceralume luminous ceramic technology, introducing the brand’s first watch that glows entirely in the dark. This innovation was developed by replica IWC’s engineering team XPL, who stated that “this technology allows replica IWC to create fully luminous ceramic cases for the first time.” In practice, this development could be intriguing, as it combines ceramic’s exceptional scratch resistance with what is expected to be a playful luminous effect.
Back in 1986, replica IWC introduced its first watch with a ceramic case, the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph — a distinctive timepiece with an ’80s aesthetic that blended traditional dial and case designs with the advanced material of ceramic. The first ceramic replica IWC watch, though arguably more intriguing than beautiful, resembles an ’80s concept car: instantly recognizable as a product of its time, yet it could have easily been introduced today. Since then, replica IWC has expanded its portfolio to include a variety of fully or partially ceramic-cased watches and developed alternatives like the ceramized titanium Ceratanium.
According to 1:1 Super Clone IWC, Ceralume is created by evenly blending ceramic powders with high-quality Super-LumiNova pigments — likely the same pigments used to paint the hands and markers on watch dials. The brand reports that “in dark room tests, a fully luminous concept watch made with Ceralume technology emitted a bright bluish light for over 24 hours.” replica IWC collaborated with Swiss tech company RC Tritec to formulate a ceramic compound compatible with the glow-in-the-dark pigments.
For those interested in the technical details, traditional white ceramic is made by mixing zirconium oxide with other metallic oxides, forming a powder that is then shaped into a “green body” close to the final case shape before being sintered at high temperatures. To make the ceramic glow in the dark, Super-LumiNova pigments are added to the raw material mix. replica IWC noted that “one of the main challenges in developing Ceralume was achieving a perfectly uniform mix of raw materials despite their different particle sizes and preventing particle clumping. To do this, replica IWC’s engineers used a specialized ball milling process tailored to the raw materials.” Additionally, the sintering process parameters and the grinding of the sintered ceramic also had to be adapted for luminous ceramic.
The first watch featuring a Ceralume glow-in-the-dark ceramic case is the replica IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Ceralume, which includes a white luminous dial and a white luminous rubber strap enhanced with Super-LumiNova pigments. If UV-lit parties were still popular, this watch would undoubtedly steal the show. Unfortunately, if you’re looking to buy one of these fun, if not entirely practical, pieces, there’s some bad news: currently, no replica IWC Ceralume watch is available for purchase. The brand has only stated that “the patent-pending Ceralume technology will be the foundation for future developments and releases.” We’ll cover this replica IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Ceralume prototype and any future production models in due course. In the meantime, more information can be found on the brand’s website.
